Buxton Conservation Areas Appraisal

Buxton is a well-known historic town, famous originally as a spa, and more recently for its opera house, its Georgian architecture and its festivals. This study encompassed all four conservation areas within Buxton and considered them as a whole.

The town is marked by its topography, straddling several hills and the Wye valley, and its complex web of views and landmarks around the town. Our over-arching approach to the whole town and its four separate conservation areas enabled an analysis of the views, which ranged across several conservation areas.

We developed a series of maps to illustrate the townscape & provide a schematic summary of constraints.
